floral footwear

I think these shoes are absolutely to die for! Has anyone ever bought shoes from F21 before? A lot of people make fun of or deride the store for having poor quality clothing (while I'll admit it's not Gucci, the stuff looks pretty nice for what you pay and usually lasts at least five years in my closet -- good enough for me on my measly income) and while I personally think their clothes hold up fine, I've always been tentative to buy their shoes. I guess I'm just worried that they'll either be painful to walk in, or the heels will snap out from under me.

I'm not in a position to be buying shoes right now, but just wondering if anyone has bought them there, and how they hold up? :)

Lots of new awesomeness

Since I'm a bit of a fashion dork, I check Forever 21's New Arrivals section every morning when I read my blogs and news.. I don't usually buy anything but I just love gawking at all the beautiful clothes.

This week they added some super-cute stuff that I had to share :) The pictures link to the items!

I didn't realize it at first, but I guess I'm really concentrating on black and white this year...

Crochet Flower Top from Forever 21

If you have a curvy figure like me, it can sometimes be difficult shopping at Forever 21. The store seems more suited to skinny young teens than older figuresque Latinas. That doesn't stop me from shopping there though. It just makes me work harder to find unique items that will complement my figure.

I seem to have more luck at the online store now that I have in the brick-and-mortar one. I think it's because a mall store has been picked through and the popular sizes go quickly and the online store has a full selection. Also, I've developed an understanding of what fits me from there and what doesn't which makes it easier to select things online.

I just got this beautiful Crochet Flower top and wanted to alert Spiffy readers about it (people in the Boston area feel free to ignore this so we don't accidentally run into each other wearing the same thing). It's a very beautiful top and they did a great job detailing it. If you are larger than a C cup and/or have a wide rib cage, avoid this. Otherwise, go for it. It's comfortable, breathable and just absolutely exquisite. Just note that it has quite the plunging neckline and if you are shy (or have an overprotective boyfriend like I do) you may want to wear something underneath it.

Budget-Friendly Forever21 Accessories

One of the things I like most about shopping at Forever21 (both the store and online) is their amazing collection of accessories. All sorts of wonderful baubles and doodads that make me all giddy. It's very hard for me to feel guilty shopping through this section because everything is so affordable! For a spiffy gal on a budget, some inexpensive accessories can really transform an outfit, a look, a style.  If you like a Forever21 accessory, my advise is to snag it quickly because their stock has high turnover and popular items sell out fast.

When I'm on the hunt for accessories, I have several details I look for. Polka-dots, stripes, birds, elephants, cherries, bows, hearts, anything 1920s, something that reminds me of an old movie, Art Deco style, Parisian style, Nautical style, vintage travel chic and of course everything cloche! Here are some accessories currently on Forever21 that I liked and I thought I'd share with you.

(unfortunately the black one is sold out!)

Cloche Hat Love #1

My name is Raquelle and I have a cloche hat addiction. I just think these 1920's style hats are adorable and I'm really happy that currently there is a trend for modern interpretations of this classic hat. Move aside Fedora, it's time for cloche hats to shine! I thought I'd do installments called Cloche Hat Love for whenever I find nice cloche hats online. I just picked up the cloche from Forever21 that I list below and I'm super excited to get it. It'll be my 5th child in my little cloche family.

How to dress (and generally just be cool) like Sandra Dee!

When people think of memorable style icons of vintage times, Sandra Dee doesn't usually come immediately to mind. She was neither as groundbreaking nor sheerly iconic as her fellow actresses, Audrey Hepburn or Grace Kelly (among others). But nonetheless, Sandra Dee was a major fashion icon of her day, and the style she embodied continues to be extremely present in today's fashions.

I personally find Sandra, along with Audrey and Grace, to be a major style influence for me. And the very special thing about Sandra is that her style is in many ways the most accessible and "easy" of all vintage looks.

This post is not only a guide to how to dress like Sandy, but also a celebration of her lovely (and very spiffy) style.

A major "Sandraness" thing were her casual chic dresses. So, in order to properly emulate Sandra Dee, you're gonna need A LOT of dresses...in a lot of colors. The colorfulness is especially important.

Another definite part of Sandra's style, was her ability to wear the most casual and "comfortable" outfits and turn them into style moments. She especially loved simple (often tunic) blouses and toreador capris.

Sandy also wore many skirts. Pencil, A-line, and flared were the most often represented!

No Sandra Dee style guide could be complete without some swimsuits, I mean she IS Gidget, after all!

In A Summer Place (I'm certain she's trying to hide from His Blandness Troy Donahue...;-D), Sandy wear THE coolest hat ever. Half sunhat/half sunglasses. If I could ever find a hat like this, my life would be complete. I sadly can't.

Sandy + any type of accessories = COOLNESS!
Vintage Busker Hat by Modcloth (ONLY ONE TOTAL!)

An ever-important aspect of Sandy's style was the need for "fancy" gowns. For in what else could she attend her many movie premieres, or Bobby's nightclub shows?

As you can now tell (if you are indeed still reading this super-long post...haha) Sandra Dee was QUITE a stylish lady, one who deserves a status of style icon! And plus, besides wearing SPIFFY clothes she was also a great actress (comedic as well as drama), was married to Bobby Darin, and generally just went through life being super-cool.

For great style moments, watch:

{Every Sandy film is amazing, but the above few are just some of my favorites, style-wise!}
